Assumption is a thriving parish in the Monze Diocese with many
services and activities that extend far beyond the projects of Good
Samaritan. On a Sunday, both the masses in English and Chitonga are
always overcrowded and the exuberant singing can be heard from the
surrounding compounds. The parish is comprised of young and old and
there are opportunities for all the members of the parish to be
involved.

Assumption Parish is divided into 18 small Christian
communities that meet once a week for prayer and discussion. These
small Christian communities send representatives to the Parish
Council, which discusses the needs and issue of the parish.

In order to help the less fortunate in our parish there are two very
successful programs that are run through the parish. The first is
called the LISTENING CENTRE. This centre operates twice a week out of
the parish office with volunteers who listen to the problems of the
parishioners. They then offer advice and help to those in need. The
other program is entitled HOME BASED CARE. This is a program that is
run in many parishes throughout the diocese.

Listening Centre
This project was
established in order to provide food and spiritual support to those
who are in the later stages of HIV and are unable to leave their
homes. Currently the food they receive has been donated through the
United Nations, World Food Program. The staff of Home Based Care are
supported by Assumption parishioners who volunteer their time to visit
the sick and deliver them food.
